The miles upon miles of white, sandy beaches are one of the biggest draws to the Italian island of Sardinia, with plenty of hidden coves to enjoy if you prefer having space to yourself, even in peak season! Across to the west of the island is the fishing village of Isola Rossa, the water here is crystal clear making it a great place to snorkel.
Sardinia’s architecture is not your typical Italian style, known as ‘Little Barcelona’ the town of Alghero is a little piece of Spain placed into Italy. The town is a tangled web of cobbled streets and honey coloured buildings. Enjoy a day relaxing in one of the laid-back street cafés.
A visit to Italy wouldn’t be complete without trying one of their most popular cuisines…pizza! The lively city of Cagliari is worth a visit during your trip, home of the renowned Pizzetta Sfoglia. This snack combines a flaky pastry with a savoury filling of traditional tomato sauce and cheese, yum!
Local culture and exploring the sights is something many of us search for in a summer holiday – and Cyprus isn’t short of either! The history of Cyprus dates back more than 10,000 years. There are ruins and museums to keep you busy for days upon days. There are even traces of old Venetian culture in Nicosia to explore!
If relaxing is more your thing then you can do lots of that too! Beaches are not sparse in Cyprus. You can find secluded hidden gems and larger beaches with restaurants and bars galore.
Sampling the local cuisine in Cyprus is a must. There are loads of places to eat and drink; from international style restaurants to traditional North Cypriot delights made with the freshest of ingredients.
Oh, and did we mention that Cyprus has the perfect climate? Unlike other destinations, Cyprus has mild winters and hot summers – meaning that whenever you visit, you’ll be guaranteed some sunshine.
Mallorca is the largest of the three Balearic Islands and is home to sun, sea, sand and much more! The island caters for just about anyone: whether you are a family, couple, or just on a friend’s trip you will find plenty to keep you entertained.
Unbeknown to many, Mallorca is a diver’s paradise! There’s a varied marine life here – and what makes it so good is the rocky nature of the seabed, unique to Mallorca and other nearby destinations. The south west of the island is particularly interesting, with caves, tunnels and wrecks surrounding the coastline. There are plenty of scuba diving centres offering courses and excursions that cater for all levels – so whether you’re a newbie, a pro or somewhere in-between, make sure you check them out.
If you like to explore your surroundings, take a day trip to Alcudia Old Town for a dose of history. This medieval town looks like something from a fairy-tale book; wind through a maze of tiny streets and marvel at the ancient surroundings. Alcudia Old Town was originally built to protect the island against pirates! The beauty of Alcudia will keep you gripped for hours, so take your time and make sure to stop off at a local restaurant or bar to watch the world go by.
For something seriously spectacular, pay a visit to Cap de Formentor. This is a must-see spot situated on Mallorca’s northeast tip with stunning views, sandy beaches and the islands original luxury hotel – The Hotel Formentor.
